Total Joint Arthroplasty

Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA)

The knee joint is incredibly important for activities of daily life. As we age, cartilage wears and can often develop osteoarthritis, which causes indiviudals' pain during daily movements. Total knee arthroplasty, or knee joint replacement, is a common surgical intervention often used to improve knee function and alleviate pain, but less is known about how this influences movement afterward.

Total Ankle Arthroplasty (TAA)

Similarly to the knee, the ankle joint over time can develop osteoarthritis and make it painful to perform daily activities. A common surgical technique is an ankle fusion which significantly reduces the ankle range of motion. Total ankle arthroplasty, or ankle replacement, is a newer surgical technique that is becoming more popular, but recovery and long-term implications of a TAA need to be investigated.
