Impact of Sex and Cleat Type on Performance and Peak Pressure

Image of soccor and American football cleats and two graphs displaying pressure data of the feet.

Currently, American football cleats are not specifically designed for women. As a result, women often find themselves choosing between soccer cleats or men's football cleats without a clear understanding of how this choice may affect their performance. Given the increasing number of women participating in cleated sports, it is essential to investigate the performance differences based on cleat type. This study aims to explore how different types of cleats impact performance and peak pressure in both male and female athletes. The findings will help determine whether women require their own cleat designs and whether American football cleats and soccer cleats can be used interchangeably between the two sports.
